Well, when I look at his B-Ref page for the first ten years of his career, from 1958 to 1968 it lists outfield positions first with the exception of a three-season run from 1962 to 64 when he played more first base. Even then, in only one of those seasons did he play 1B more than 2/3 of his team's games. So I think my description is fair.

As a young fan my direct experience with him starts in 1965, and yes, that's the year Wes Parker showed up.
