Relic, you ever read the book "The Year The Yankees Lost The Pennant" that the movie "Damn Yankees" is based on? The opening chapter (IIRC) is unforgettable, with its description of a sweltering summer evening in Washington D.C. where middle-aged Joe Boyd (soon to be Hardy) is concerned about watering his lawn? As with most movie adaptation efforts, the movie, adapted from a musical, while good, can never capture the book completely. Another description I love is the part where Hardy, after making his pact with Applegate, senses his body transforming into that of a young, exceptional athlete and the sensation of running.

I figure this must be the favorite book all time of any Washington Senators fan.

Haven't read it in many years, so I just now went online and put a hold on the library's copy.
