This isn't directly related to the subject of the thread, but one of the things that makes me scratch my head is when the CM lets a weak-hitting pitcher bat for himself in the late innings of a close game and then immediately relieves that pitcher at the start of the next inning.  I think it is a very rare occurrence but its hard to tell since I play in a centralized league and don't see the games unfolding in front of me. But once in a blue moon it will happen in a key postseason game, much to the chagrin of the affected owner.  Since my only information on this is anecdotal and based on a small number of games, I can't say for sure if there is any pattern, but my impression is that it happens mostly in more borderline pinch-hitting situations (such as tied in the bottom of the 7th, 1 out, nobody on; or down by 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th, 2 out, runner on 1st).  Apparently the algorithm for deciding when to pinch hit doesn't include a step where the CM determines the pitcher is finished pitching for the day.  That determination must not be made until the defensive inning is ready to start.
