We are at the All Star Break and my Twins are in 1st place with a 5 1/2 game lead over Chicago and Kansas City is 6 1/2 back. There have been several Managerial changes already. Detroit has replaced Chuck Dressan with Bob Swift for health reasons and now it looks like Frank Skiff will have to replace him for health reasons. Clevelands Birdie Tebbetts and Bostons Billie Herman are also rumored to be on the hot seat. Boston could be looking for a young manager to shake things up. Maybe someone with minimal experience like Dick Williams from Toronto but that would probably be impossible. We can Dream anyway but they will probably play it safe and let Pete Runnels finish up the season. Yankee GM Ralph Houk does not like the 2nd Division and he has fired Johnny Keane and taken over himself. So far it hasn't helped as the Yanks are still 3 games under 500. Of course the biggest surprise came before the season started when the Twins fired Sam Mele (who led them to the 1965 pennant) and replace him with the unknown South Dakotan named Wade Johnson. So far it is working out as the Twins are in 1st place. Here is the All Star team announced by the voters. There will not be an actual game this year.
League Newcomer Frank Robinson is leading the league in BA/HR and RBI and is on pace for the first triple crown since 1956.
Jim Kaat has 16 wins and is on pace to be the first 30 game winner since Dizzy Dean in 1934.
