Frank Robinson won the triple crown with a 332 BA, 52 HR and 124 RBI.

Eddie Watt led in ERA at 2.20

Jim Kaat led in wins with 25

Sam McDowell was the leader in strikeouts with 266 in 224 IP ( He also led in walks with 127) and a lot of batters did not want to dig in with Sam on the mound as he was 2nd in the league with 9 hit batters. Can you say that will leave a mark.

Frank Robinson was the easy choice for the voters as AL MVP as he  did win the triple crown.

The Cy Young Award was tougher as Luis Tiant, Jim Kaat, Sandy Koufax and Mike Cueller all got votes. Finally after it looked like a stalemate one voter suggested two Cy Young Awards (one for each league) and

this motion was easily approved. That narrowed it down to Luis Tiant the best Statistical pitcher and Jim Kaat. Since Jim Kaat was 2nd to Tiant in the important categories (CERA and WHIP) and since Tiant was 9-11

in 212 IP the easy choice was Jim Kaat who led the league in wins, IP, Complete games and quality starts.
