At the insistence of the Steinbrenner brothers, Derek Jeter suffered a "calf injury" Monday night to ensure he'd get his 3,000th hit at home. According to Hank Steinbrenner, who had suggested during the Jeter negotiations that some Yankees were "too busy building mansions" to make the playoffs in 2010, was quoted as saying, "We're not going to pay that effin' lardass Hall of Fame money to hit like effin' Bucky Dent and then have him pump up the attendance at effin' Wrigley Field for his 3,000th hit. Eff that! He's going to get that hit here at Yankee Stadium . . . I don't give a rat's patoot if we have to sit his lazy ass . . . I mean rest his injured calf . . . for two months. With what we're paying him, he'll hit when and where we want him to hit!"
Note: Mostly a joke, but you never know . . . nah, they wouldn't do that, would they? Hmmmm . . .
