While waiting the formatted product, I'll offer a bit of a tease in the form of a pop quiz. And I'll keep it simple for all the DH fans out there by limiting it to true/false. But I will qualify it by saying the answers are based on my particular case study and may not be indicative all eras/set-ups. I will also add that I don't necessarily support the results, in fact, in some cases I'm in violent opposition to the findings, but I'll let the numbers speak for themselves.

1) False, along with catcher, all three outfield positions are penalized much more heavily than shortstop. In fact, third base is also penalized more heavily than shortstop. However, catcher and shortstop are the only positions in which there are no out-of-position players, regardless of rating, that produce a positive expectation.

2) False, while players rated @2B EX/75 and @3B EX/75 are largely equivalent at first base, both outperform a player rated @1B VG/200.

3) False, when catching a player rated @RF Arm=EX is no better than a player rated @RF Arm=PR or a player rated @SS. Similarly, a catcher's arm strength has no impact when playing in the outfield.

4) True, run production is about the same. While the rated right fielder has a higher fielding percentage, the rated shortstop produces more putouts and holds opponents to a lower AVG & SPC.

5) False, a shortstop rated EX/125 is largely equivalent to a shortstop rated AV/75. While the former produces more assists and holds opponent's to a lower AVG, the later produces a higher field percentage

6) False, when catching, all players not rated at catcher are equally inept.

7) False, while the success rate is significantly higher, the number of attempts and stolen bases are both lower with an unrated catcher behind the plate. The high number of passballs with an unrated catcher may remove both the need and opportunity to steal. Of course, a real-life manager would be much more abusive of this situation.

8) False, the player rated @SS EX/25 is actually slightly better defensively, though a rated second baseman becomes more valuable as range & error rates deteriorate.

9) True, it is surprisingly more beneficial to have no rating when playing second base or shortstop than to be rated FR/PR at either catcher or first base. In fact, a DH fares better than a catcher rated VG/0 at both second base and shortstop and fares better than most outfielders when playing at second base.

10) False, the wild pitch rate is independent of a catcher's rating. (Note: players not rated at catcher allowed more wild pitches at an infinitesimally higher rate, approximately one more wild pitch every 20,000 batters faced, than rated catchers. This may be due to the fact that a hurler had to throw more pitches per batter, a figure that was not tracked, to record an out with an unrated catcher behind the plate. A third strike foul tip not held by catcher may be a good example.)

11) False, all rated outfielders transition equally as well between corner outfield positions i.e. players rated @LF AV/50, @CF AV/50, @RF AV/50 fare uniformly when playing leftfield. (Note: there is a slight disparity in favor of a rated rightfielder playing rightfield.)

12) False, the best out-of-position play for a first baseman is second base, followed by third base, shortstop, and than corner outfield. Of course, a negative expectation is still produced at all out-of-position spots for a first baseman; it is just not as "bad" at second base.

13) False, with this set-up both changes produce an 8-run savings over the course of a season. (Obviously, in run happy eras or perhaps against a human manager, increased arm strength would result in greater value.)

14) True, in this particular scenario, a player rated @3B EX/175 saved 14 runs over a player rated @3B AV/100 while a player rated @SS EX/175 actually cost his team 4 runs beyond a player rated @SS AV/100.

15) False, there is no indication that a player's range affects the fielding percentage for any position i.e. a rangy first baseman does not prevent throwing errors by his infield mates.

16) False. Admittedly this is based on an extremely small sample size, but it appears that only the "best" position applies when translating into out-of-position play. All other rated positions are irrelevant regardless of expectation.

17) False, the significance of a centerfielder's arm strength is largely on par with that of a rightfielder's. In fact, the centerfielder's arm produced more dynamic results.

18) False, both rightfielders produce the same number of assists. Obviously, the poor throwing outfielder has greater opportunity to gun down runners.

19) True, neither an unrated catcher nor a catcher with a poor arm picks off a single runner over the course of a season.

20) False, outfielders are penalized more heavily for a lack range than a high error rate. The opposite is true for catchers and infielders, especially middle infielders.
