I was listening to the Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers game this afternoon and for a moment I thought I was in the middle of a DMB play-by-play. Apparently, a beach ball escaped the right field pavilion and came on to the field with Paul Goldschmidt at bat. Yasiel Puig tried to get a time out, but failed and Goldschmidt struck out. Charlie Steiner, the Dodgers' radio PBP announcer said, "Beach ball? Beach ball ? What beach ball?" I thought he was going to continue with "...at Dodger Stadium, okay. But, here?" Except that it was at Dodger Stadium. So, even in real life baseball we can't get away from the dreaded beach-ball-on-the-field play call.
